Metals and Ores
Gold- Soft precious metal. Very valued due to its incorruptability.
Silver- A valuable metal found all over Uthrac. Not as valuable as gold. It occurs naturally and as a gold and copper alloy.
Copper- Occurs as malachite, a mineral that can be fationed into both gems and copper ore. The metal is inherently soft, and is in most cases used for jewelry or coinage.
Tin- Soft metal that when combined with Copper creates Bronze.
Bronze- Alloy created from Tin and Copper that is stronger than iron but not steel.
Iron- Principally mined as hematite, the ore is not as strong as bronze but is more readily available. It is also found in meteorites. Iron requires a lot of heat to melt and so most of the armor and weapons are forged iron that has been heated and manipulated with a hammer and anvil.
Steel- When carbon is added to iron ore at high temperatures, the outcome is steel. It is less brittle than iron. The ? in ? were the first to form a blast furnace that could reach the necessary temperatures using coal. Baked coal, or coke, is the primary means of supplying carbon to the iron.
Blue Steel- A metal similar to steel, but is a naturally occurring ore and is not an alloy. It gets its name from the blue tint of the metal. It holds an edge better than regular steel and is easier to work. It is a very rare material.
Plantom- The most precious metal found on Uthrac. Plantom is the hardest metal to forge into armour and weaponry, but when made out of this material, these items prove almost indestructable.
Mining
Iron, being the first metal discovered, allowed for an ease of mining. Otherwise stone tools would have to be used, as was the case in some locals. Hammers and chisels, picks and shovels, were all made using iron, bronze, and stone.
